The inspiration for Iluliaq began with combining a thin san-serif and a bold slab-serif typeface. Both having opposing characteristics, a combination would surely make for an interesting design. The line weight is kept thin while the serifs are bold and stately. The cross beams are lowered giving the letters a heavier bottom, much like an iceberg. This weight balance relationship directly inspired the imagery used and the unique name Iluliaq; meaning the part of the iceberg below the water’s surface in West Greenlandic. -for educational purposes only
